Competitive Pokemon: Alomomola

Description

Alomomola is the definition of big fat pink wall, being one of the few that isn't Normal-type Pokemon. Although many Pokefans are still raging over how Alomomola should've been the evolution of Luvdisc. Boasting a massive HP stat, Alomomola perfectly epitomizes the concept of a bulky Water-type. With its good Defense stat to complement its HP, Alomomola is a great wall to many commonly used competitive Pokemon, including Talonflame, Garchomp, and Azumarill. It can heal itself and its teammates with gigantic Wishes, and it is the only Pokemon with the combination of Wish and Regenerator, allowing it to heal itself as it passes Wishes onto other Pokemon. Regenerator makes Alomomola difficult to wear down and mitigates potential entry hazard damage. As a defensive Pokemon, it has a good Water typing, as well as access to Scald to burn physical attackers that could try to set up on it. Scald also allows Alomomola to cripple defensive threats such as Ferrothorn and Mega Sableye. It even gets Magic Coat to bounce back attempted entry hazards from Pokemon such as Garchomp and Hippowdon. It was also annoying in Sun and Moon as it was one of the Pokemon that Totem Wishiwashi could call for help, and it would then restore its massive HP with Heal Pulse. Unfortunately, Alomomola's Scald is very weak, often not even doing much to Pokemon it is super effective against, which means that Alomomola is vulnerable to setup sweepers with Substitute or those that aren't affected by burns such as Gyarados and Poison Heal Gliscor, respectively. However, Alomomola can still wall a huge amount of dangerous threats and is a fine choice on balanced and stall teams.

Here’s my Alomomola's summary.
Nature: Bold
Held Item: Leftovers or Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 36 HP / 220 Def / 252 SpDef
-Scald
-Wish
-Protect
-Mirror Coat / Toxic

This set walls a lot of common and powerful Pokemon and passes very large Wishes to Alomomola's teammates. Protect prevents Alomomola from taking damage as it receives its own Wish while also aiding it in Toxic stalling and occasionally scouting moves such as Hidden Power Electric on Keldeo. Toxic cripples the offensive Pokemon Alomomola walls by putting them on a timer and gives it a means of damaging defensive Pokemon with reliable recovery.
Scald is used against physical attackers that can potentially set up and muscle their way through Alomomola, and it is also is necessary for Steel-types such as Mega Scizor. Mirror Coat can be quite a niche option, but it is useful for surprising special attackers. However, the teams Alomomola is on should have the necessary means for dealing with stronger special attackers. You can always alternatively run Toxic as it runs great on this set and on this bulky Pokemon.

Leftovers provides Alomomola with passive recovery, but Rocky Helmet is viable too, as Alomomola already has two means of recovery, one of which happens without the use of a move. Because of Alomomola's incredible HP stat, it is more beneficial to invest heavily in Defense and Special Defense. 36 HP EVs are enough to reach a Leftovers number. Special Defense is maximized because Alomomola needs investment there to perform as a mixed wall, and the rest of the EVs are put into Defense. Fully invested Special Defense with 36 HP EVs is much better than 252 HP / 252 Def because the overall physical bulk is around the same but Alomomola's special bulk gets much better.

Of course Alomomola can run a variety of other moves. Here are some suggestions:
-If you're confident that Scald can get you by with its decent STAB and potential Burn chance, you can replace Toxic with Knock Off to tamper with opponent's strategies by removing their held items. And you'll notice Alomomola's Physical Attack stat (even one with a Bold Nature that lowers) is actually higher than its Special Attack stat.
-Aqua Jet can be used as a surprise tactic and allows Alomomola to pick off weaker Pokemon.
-Calm Mind could be used as a way to boost its frail Special Defense, allowing to stall Pokemon on both sides of the spectrum indefinitely.
-Dive can be used over Waterfall to be a means for additional Toxic stalling.
-Heal Pulse is very useful in Doubles or Triples, as it will help to heal your partner(s) immediately and is a reliable form of recovery as Wish won't extend to those Pokemon until they switch out.
-Healing Wish can be used if you like randomly bringing something back to full health after sacrificing Alomomola.
-Helping Hand is useful for support in D / T, allowing Alomomola to boost its partner's effectiveness.
-Pain Split can be used as another form of recovery, though not as reliable as Wish.
-Rain Dance can be used on a Hydration-Rest set, though it requires a lot of support to keep going.
-Rest is used on the aforementioned set where Alomomola's ability is Hydration, giving Alomomola the best recovery possible as long as Rain is around.
-Safeguard is surprisingly useful in Doubles / Triples, allowing Alomomola to shield its allies from incoming status.
-Soak....use this if you like poisoning EVERYTHING with Toxic, otherwise just a complete waste of time and space.
-Substitute can be used in conjunction with Regenerator to help protect Alomomola from surprises, and be able to heal off the aftermath.
-Wide Guard is once again a useful move for Doubles and Triples, shielding from common moves such as Earthquake.
-
Play Nice is one of the new tools that Alomomola got in Sun and Moon, and it's always handy in a slightly gimmicky way. Its got priority and it lowers the opponent's Attack. You can never go wrong with that.

Notes:

I wouldn't recommend giving Alomomola a nickname since its own name is actually a palindrome, meaning it's spelled the same both forwards and backwards.
